Cherry Audios Octave Cat synthesizer emulerar The CAT duofoniska synthesizer som släpptes av Octave Electronics 1976. Utvecklad i samarbete med The CAT:s ursprungliga designer, behåller Octave Cat ($49 MAP/$69 List) all vädjan av den ursprungliga hårdvarans feta, vilda ljud och replikerar dess aggressiva resonanta filter. Octave Cat har den flexibla modulationen, skrikande ljudområde oscillator cross-mod, och intensiv oscillator sync från den ursprungliga hårdvaran, och utökar den med utökad polyfoni, en robust integrerad effekt suite, och en mångsidig dual-step sequencer.

1976: Året för The CAT

I början av 1970-talet var portabla synthesizers en sällsynthet, och endast ett fåtal musiker hade råd med de legendariska Minimoog eller ARP Odyssey synthesizers. Medvetna om detta, beslutade en liten grupp ingenjörer i New York ledd av den briljanta 22-åringen Carmine Bonanno att skaka om saker och ting och skapa prisvärda synthesizers med innovativa funktioner, vilket gav upphov till Octave Electronics.

Med inspiration från sina egna designer för ett modulärt system, satte Bonanno och hans team ut för att skapa en synthesizer som inte bara var tillgänglig för blivande musiker utan också hade banbrytande funktioner. Några av de största namnen inom elektronisk musik har använt The CAT, inklusive Devo, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Dave Greenslade, Split Enz (särskilt för keyboardbreaket i deras hitlåt, "I Got You"), och, mer nyligen, The Prodigy och The Chemical Brothers.
